MRT LRT fare increase suspended with activist's effort

Good News!
The fare increase for the Light Railway Transit and for the Metro Railway Transit , LRT and MRT fare increase were suspended according to the authorities.

It can recall that the fair increase for the LRT - MRT is set to take effect on March 1 of this year. However, with the activist's efforts, the about-to-be increase is now suspended for at least a month to give way for further review.

Light Railway Transit Authority (LRTA) administrator Rafael Rodriguez made the announcement last Saturday, February 5, at public consultation held at the LRTA depot in Santolan, Pasig City.

"Kailangan tignan lahat, otherwise parang moro-moro lang yung consultation," as we quote LRTA spokesperson Hernando Cabrera.

Militant activists who are blocking the increase felt relieved with the announcement, well at least temporarily"

"This means that the fare hike proposal is not dead yet. We urge commuters to remain vigilant and monitor the decisions of the LRTA board of directors," said Bayan secretary-general Renato Reyes Jr..

Renato Reyes, in a press statement last Sunday, said they believe that the LRTA board has no mandate to approve fare increases because it is not a regulatory body.

"Lumalabas kasi na parang sila ang judge jury and executioner," Bayan Muna party-list Representative Neri Colmenares further added.

"Should it (Light Railway Transit Authority) proceed with the increase, it will face intense political and legal opposition," Reyes said.

"The fare hike… merely seeks to pass on to the riding public billions of pesos worth of onerous debts coming from flawed contracts," Renato Reyes added.

In conclusion, the fight isn't over yet, especially if we are talking of billions of peso, because there are many credibilities are for sale nowadays.

Let this post serves as my contribution for the benefit of the common people who uses the LRT and MRT services.
