Toss Coin Decides Mindoro Mayorial Race

An old - usually seen in a usual street play to head start a game - toss coin, was used to decide the mayorial race in Oriental Mindoro after two of the candidates had tied up for the first place.

After the canvassing was finished and all votes were counted, surprisingly and ironically, Marvic Feraren and Salvador Py both had ended up with 3,236 total votes - making them tied up.

For the reason that a municipality cannot have two Mayors, a toss coin was agreed upon by both parties to decide who will reign for the next three years.

"In order to break the tie, napagkasunduan na 5 times ihahagis ang coin, pinakamaraming times na heads ‘yung panalo," -the town’s acting election officer, Reny Pagilagan said.

But before you raise that eyebrows up, toss coin is officially allowed by the Commission on Election (COMELEC) in which results will be duly honored.

After the toss coin, the son of the incumbent mayor - Marvic Feraren, was declared the new Mayor of Oriental Mindoro.

Well, someone must take that coin, frame it and display it on the town's city hall to comemorate the said feat. Should Feraren's term ended, the coin should be forwarded to COMELEC's hallway as a tribute of such odd situation.
