It would appear that the KFC-Lovers will have to content their selves to a french fries-less menu after the company had crossed-out their potato products off the chart. KFC said that the stoppage will continue until they can secure a steady supply from exporters.
However, potato supply on Japan is coming from the US where the exportation came from a major halt after industrial labor strike of dockworkers on the west coast crippled the potato exportation.
"Due to the prolonged dockworkers' disputes on the United States West Coast, it has become difficult to secure stable supplies of potatoes," - the KFC Japan said in an statement.
McDonald Japan has also felt the shortage and was reported to arilifted more than 1,000 tonnes of potatoes and had placed an emergency shipment via an unusual route.
McDonald's measure had eased the shortage but was forced to limit the customers into small servings of fries.
Another food chain from Japan, the Gusto Restaurant, also planned to airlift 200 tons of french fries to avoid the shortage.
Dockworkers on US west coast are reportedly on a go-slow and have not providing enough workers for months after strikers bid to gain labour negotation with employers.
