Manila Classes Suspended On January 9, 2015 - Black Nazarene

Classes on all levels on Manila has been suspended in light of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

The Feast of the Black Nazarene is a part of Philippine culture celebrated on ninth of the first month of the year. Philippines is a country where majority of residents are Catholic.

The famous Black Nazarene resides on Quiapo Church. During the celebration, the Black Nazarene would be brought outside the church and will be paraded on a designated route. The parade usually last about 24 whole hours.
Metro Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada had said to an interview that the local government of Manila has been preparing for the said cultural event.

"We are mobilizing all hospitals, the entire Manila police force, doctors, City Hall’s engineering department and the garbage department to be in full force during the Feast of the Black Nazarene," - the former Philippine president said.

The mayor also said that he will meet with Monsignor Jose Clemente Ignacio, rector of the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo to have a properly coordinated celebration.

January 9, 2015 will be Friday, though it is announced that all classes on all levels are suspended, just like from the previous years, no official announcement for the non-working holiday on government and private companies.

It is however expected that these institutions, especially the private sectors to declare their own non-working holiday on their own.
