1456 Text Message - Government Warning
Subscribers are about to receive free text messages about typhoons, earthquakes, stunames and other natural calamities natonwide.
Philippine telecommunication companies, all three of them had joined forces in coordination with the Philippine government to send free advisories regarding clamities, typhoons, natural disasters and other public concern emergencies.The partnership of Smart (PLDT), Globe and Sun Cellular (Digitel) was launched on the media last Friday in Malacanang.
According to the program, telecommunication companies will send out free text message alerts about public safety concerns and other announcements to the public.
This is another public service spearheaded by the government.
As planned, all active subscribers on their database is subject to receive the alert messages for free.
Now that is something we really want to receive, not those ad messages that are spamming our inboxes.
Text messages that will be sent to the public will contain information on disaster warnings related to typhoons, earthquakes, tsunamis, and other emergencies.
Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Sonny Coloma said that the project goaled give the public timely and accurate information during emergencies, and to avoid panic. This is reagrding to the hoad messages that circulates the country, one good example is the chain text messages about the Radioactive Rain Warning from Japan's nuclear facility at Fukushima, Japan - read it here.
To make sure that the message will come from the government, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), in cooperation with 40 other government agencies said that the alert text message must come from the number 1456.
The NDRRMC said that the computer system for the project is secured from hacking and they are doing all preventive measures that it will be used from any kind of abuse.
Users don't need to subscribe to receive the alert messages.
