March 2012, BMW had made a recall for a possible battery cable cover problems.

The BMW recall had affected about 1.3 million cars worldwide, the car maker said on Monday. The largest premium car manufaturer said on the statement that the affected cars are the 5 and 6 series BMW that was built between 2003 and 2012.

According to BMW official statement - "In some remote cases, the battery cable cover inside the boot of these vehicles may be incorrectly mounted,".

The battery cable cover problem may cause electrical system malfucntions which may lead to the vehicle failing to start and in some remote and severe cases - charring or an actual fire. THe BMW spokesperson whoever said that there have been no reports of fires yet worldwide.

The recall breakdown was roughly counted to about 368,000 cars in the United States ; 293,000 cars in Germany ; 109,000 cars in Britain ; 102,000 cars in China, and to other parts of the world.

BMW said that they are currently writing to car owners. The simple repair procedure to various BMW partner workshops would only take about 30 minutes to one hour, completely free of charge.
