Isabela City, Basilan - An ambush that killed six persons and wounded twenty one others had shocked the entire country earlier today.

Around six a.m. of July 13, 2012, an about ten armed lawless elements, identified as Abu Sayyaf bandits staged an ambush against the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Unfortunately Tumajubong Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Integrated Development Council (TARBIDC) rubber plantation workers where among of the victims of the hearthless ambush.

The ambush took place at Barangay Supa Bulak of Sumisip int he island of Basilan province, said Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang.

With this, financial assistance was given by the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) via officer-in-charge Governor Mujiv Hataman. The finanacial assistance which was released last Thursday amounts to half a million pesos in cash which given to the families of the victims.

According to Governor Hataman, The families of the victims who died on the incident received fifty thousand pesos of financial assistance while the eight of the wounded had given twenty thousand each.

What's the motive?

Katoh D. Taha, general manager of the Tumahubong Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Integrated Development Cooperative, Inc., said in a telephone interview that the reason of the ambush is nothing but a plain extortion.

A 1,000-hectare farmland of rubber plantation is the target of this rebel groups, according to the authorities.

As of press time, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is conducting an investigation for a man hunt activities in Basilan.
