Regular Non Working Holiday - August 30, 2011

The Malacanang announced last Friday that the August 30 of this year has been declared by the president as an official non working holiday.

"You are all going to have a long weekend on Aug. 30," said Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda on media last Friday.

"It's not going to be moved" - Lacierda added, saying that since August 30 is Tuesday - it is but suitable to be a holiday following Monday as a Heroes Day which is a normal holiday.

Lacierda cited the Republic Act 9492, which rationalized observance of holidays throughout the country.

Republic Act 9492 was signed by the former President Arroyo in July 2007, Republic Act 9492 required that most holidays, except those with religious significance, be moved to the nearest Monday to preserve productivity among businesses. The holidays are listed in Proclamation No. 1841 of the previous administration, which included August 30.

It is indeed going to be a long weekend for both students and employees. That would make it a four days vacation for the student and a three days rest for the working individuals, if you have work on Saturday that is.

August 30, 2011 has been declared as holiday to respect our brother Muslims on the end of Ramadan.
