Typhoon Meari - Storm Meari Update

After hitting the northern Philippines, typhoon Meari now creates havoc on southern China destroying homes, flooding streets and killing at least two people with six still missing.

Typhoon Meari, the fifth tropical storm this year on China, is forecast to take it's path into the southeastern part of the East China Sea between Friday night up to Saturday in the morning, with a sustaining winds of about 33 meters per second or about 2 kilometers per hour.

The Fujian and Zhejiang provinces of East China had prepared for the tropical storm by the local governments. The local authorities had seen the typhoon Meari long before after it hit the Philippine islands. Typhoon Meari is expected to bring strong winds and heavy downpours to China's coastal regions and islands.

Typhoon Meari was about 1,020 kilometers to the southeast of Wenzhou, a coastal city of Zhejiang as of today at five pm, Friday. The tropical storm is moving at 25 kilometers per hour to the direction of northwest, said the province's meteorological authorities.

In northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, hailstorms has poured the city of Bei'an destroying 1,333 hectares of crops on Wednesday and Thursday night, the deputy chief of Municipal Agriculture Bereau - Wang Deyou said on an interview.

Two persons has been confirmed dead, six are still missing, while four people has been reported to have been pulled out from the debris after the days rain triggered the landslide on Taiyanghe Township on Enshi city.
