Is August 20, 2012 Was A Special Holiday?
August 20, 2012 Non-Working , No Classes Holiday Or Not?
Is August 20, 2012 was declared as a special non-working holiday for the Philippines?
This has been a question that is currently spreading online.
August 20, 2012 - Monday, is the end of Muslim's Ramadan (others spelled it as Ramadhan) which is called as Eid’l Fitr. It was first former Philippine President Gloria Arroyo who assigned the day as a non-working holiday.
Last year, Philippine President Benigno Noynoy PNoy Aquino III also declared the day of the end of Ramadan as a non-working holiday.
So will it be a holiday this year?
Answer:
Yes it is!
Through the power of Proclamation No. 455, s. 2012, the end of Ramdan had been officially declared as a national holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr.
Below is the embedded announcement from Malacanang.

there is no announcement yet from the office of the muslim affairs - that is what you need to confirm the date. basically 30 days from shawal falls august 18 or 19 and would depend on the sighting of the new moon.
ReplyDeleteThis makes us all confused on what is really the real score, holiday or not. I hope it's a non-working holiday so that we have enough time for the family since we go to school for 2 Saturdays now making bayad for the walang pasok due to typhoon.
ReplyDeleteI hope it's a holiday so we have lots of time for the family. I am also a working mom and we went to school for 2 consecutive Saturdays now paying for our " utang" due to typhoon. My body is aching for a rest too.
ReplyDeletetoo many holidays in the Philippines. with the last HABAGAT onslaught last week, and the end of the Ramadan officially is Aug 18, they should NOT declare Aug 20 as a holiday. it is hurting the business sectors and the economy of the Philippines. too many holidays...they're only benefitting the working class. if there is no business to run anymore at the end of the day, that would mean no work for the Filipino people.
ReplyDeleteI DON'T THINK THIS POST MENTIONED ANYTHING ABOUT THE WHOLE PHILIPPINES BEING A NON-WORKING HOLIDAY.
