Active LPA Now A Tropical Storm Helen
New Philippine Storm Named
As much as we don't want it, we need to deliver the bad news.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration earlier today, August 12, 2012, announced on their weather bulletin that the active Low Pressure Area (LPA) within Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) that they're monitoring had developed into a full-fledged tropical storm, and was named "Helen".
According to PAGASA, tropical storm Helen was spotted (estimated) based on satellite images and surface data at 750 kilometers East of Casiguran, Aurora and has a coordinates of 16.7°N 130.2°E.
How strong?
Helen is still tropical storm and not yet a typhoon, it has a maximum winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center.
