A hype has been all over the net now as Filipinos all over the country would like to take a closer look on the ex-Philippine president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's mug shot. It was became popular as it was featured on local news and even printed on newspapers.Arroyo's mug shot photo has been circulating online and even made to the top search on Yahoo! Philippines. A mug shot is a photo of any person that has been officially identified as a suspect for any charges under the law. Pampanga representative Gloria Arroyo was charged with electoral sabotage by the Commission on Elections.
However, the photo that was featured on the the television news and the one that has been circulating online was not authentic. Though the police authorities has confirmed that Gloria Arroyo's mug shot really exists, as it was taken officially, but the ones that was published online from different websites and blogs is fake and not authentic.
Nicanor Bartolome however GENERALLY told TV Patrol last Wednesday that the circulating mug shot photo is not authentic. "I would like to state for the record that the published pictures are not the authentic mug shot photos of Rep. Gloria Arroyo," - Bartolome said on an interview.
Meanwhile, Miriam Santiago fiercly as she always is said that Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's righs to privacy was clearly violated when her mug shots were leaked and released by the authorities.
“When the mug shot of the accused is taken, could it be a violation of her personal right to privacy if this is published? The answer is yes,” Senator Miriam Santiago told reporters last Tuesday.
“It is another question whether a newspaper or a website can publish a mug shot,” Senator Santiago said. “It is not a usual, common photograph. It already suggests guilt on the part of the person. What’s more is that it catches the individual at his most embarrassing moment.” - she added further.
On the other hand, Senator Panfilo Lacson gave his different opinion regarding the mug shots that was circulating online.
“Lahat na mina-mug shot, pwedeng i-release anytime. That’s part of court records. Pag court records, that becomes public document,” he also told reporters on Tuesday in a different interview.
It can be recalled that Senator Panfilo Lacson himself had became the chief of Philippine National Police.
The police authorities is currently tracking the source of the circulating mug shots.
On my personal opinion, if the circulating mug shots was not authentic then there is no violation of personal privacy as Senator Santiago is telling right? If the real mug shot was not the real one, then there is no point of the commotion, right? Just asking.
UPDATE:
Senior Police Superintendent James Bucayu of Southern Police District said that the Arroyo's mug shot photos that were released on the web are REAL.
Bucayu however said that the photo, though authentic, was not leaked from his own office following the appeals from the Arroyo's camp that Gloria Arroyo be treated with due respect. He further told on an interview from ANC that the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group or CIDG was the one who took the muc shot pictures.
Aside from CIDG, the court was also given with copies of the mug shots.
Bucayu said that he had compared the circulating mug shot photo and the one that they are holding, true enough, he said that the leaked mug shots are authentic.
According to the report received by Bucayu, Arroyo's mug shot picture really has her neck brace when the mug shots were taken because of her delicated condition as imposed by her camp. Bucayu further told the media that Gloria Arroyo is lying down when her finger prints were taken.
The mug shot was taken last Saturday, November 19, 2011.
