Alberto Lim Resigns As DOT secretary
Department Of Tourism secretary Alberto Lim Resigns today, August 12, 2011.
Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda confirmed that Malacanang had accepted the DOT secretary's resignation last Monday. The president however, gave him the right to announce his resignation to the public on his own dispensation, Lacierda said on a media interview.
Filipino community had been asking on why did the DOT secretary resigned. Speculations said that the allegations of him being one of the so called "sakit ng ulo ng presidente".
However, Alberto Lim answered when asked said that they should ask the president if he is one of those.
"I think you have to ask the President whether I was one of his headaches" - Lim said on the media.
He then stated that he is prioritizing his family over his job, the main reason he want to leave his post as DOT secretary. Lim said that he will continue to pursue his career on private sectors.
"I thank the President for the opportunity given to serve the Filipino people as a member of his Cabinet," Lim said in a press conference at Malacanang Palace. "My reason for resigning is personal. I would like to spend more time with my family. My responsibilities require a great deal of travel and time away from my loved ones." - the current DOT secretary said on media.
Under Lim's management, Edwin Lacierda said there was a half a million increase in tourist arrivals and that there were also more travelers on domestic section.
The resignation was announced on the public a day after the release of department's videos for the 'Pilipinas Tara Na' campaign.
The resignation was said to be effective on August 31 of this year. Edwin Lacierda said that the current secretary will be helping for the department's transition for the next appointed DOT head.
