It looks like the month of June had brought devastated series of earthquakes that jolted North Cotabato with the municipality of Carmen as the epicenter. The earthquakes were also felt on nearby provinces.
The first quake hit Cotabato City Saturday night, June 1, 2013, with a magnitude of 5.7 on richer's scale causing damages to a total of 114 houses, two bridges and several school buildings.
After just two days, another earthquake rocked the Cotabato City with the same intensity, 5.7 in magnitude, around 4:08 a.m. Monday morning. The epicenter was recorded to have been closer to the town proper of Carmen, seven kilometers (km) northeast of Carmen, North Cotabato according to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The two earthquakes had left P71 million in damages as estimated by the authorities.
With the earthquakes, the first school days which suppose to be on June 3, 2013 was held off because of the damages on school buildings on the province.
"We are still conducting assessments. Some school buildings have collapsed, others have huge cracks on walls and floors," - the district supervisor of public schools in Carmen, Dionisio Costes told reporters.
