Philippine Gun Ban Ends June 12, 2013

Together with the celebration of Independence Day, the Philippine election gun ban ends today, June 12, 2013.

In the Philippines, the gun ban marks the start and the end of the election period which started on January 13 to June 12, 2013. Gun ban means that you cannot carry guns outside of your home, even legitimate gun owners' permit to carry is suspended.

This day, June 12, the law lifted any suspension regarding owning and carrying gun nationwide.

The Election Gun Ban or the Comelec Resolution 9561-A and Republic Act 8292, have resulted in the arrest of 3,684 persons, mostly civilians according to an updated report (as of June 11, 2013).

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said 3,398 of those arrested were civilians, 42 government officials, 153 security guards, 52 were from the PNP, 23 from the Armed Forces, seven from other law enforcement agencies, four from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, one from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and four from the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU).

The PNP also said it has confiscated 3,578 firearms, 163 airguns and firearm replicas, 1,080 bladed weapons, 239 grenades, 515 other explosives, and 30,497 rounds of ammunition.

This is really a good news since I am an owner of a gun - air gun that is. I just bought my second airgun with a 3x9-40mm scope and I have not use it yet because of the prohibition. With the ban being lifted, I am looking forward to have it tested with my fellow gun owners here on our place.
