October 1, 2011, Tropical Storm Quiel - Suspension Of Classes

Bagyong Quiel is now officially declared as a full pledge typhoon by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration office (PAGASA).

At 10:00 am today, September 30, 2011, Bagyong Quiel or Typhoon Quiel was located somewhere at 640 kilometers East of Tuguegarao City and moving West at the speed of 22 kilometers per hour with the strength of 140 kilometers per hour near the center.

Public storm signal warning was raised on number two on two provinces namely Cagayan and Isabela and storm signal number one on fourteen provinces namely Calayan Group of Islands, Babuyan Group of Islands, Apayao, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Pangasinan, Benguet, La Union, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte and Abra.

With this, residents on affected areas are advised with the following Department of Education (DepEd) guidelines in regards to the suspension of classes in regards to typhoons nationwide.

Public Storm Warning Signal Number 1 = Classes on pre schools are suspended.
Public Storm Warning Signal Number 2 = Classes on both elementary and secondary are suspended, as well as pre schools levels.
Public Storm Warning Signal Number 3 = Classes on tertiary level is suspended, as well as pre school, elementary and secondary levels.

CHeD and DepEd however told that the schools may opt to suspend their classes anytime if they find that their jurisdiction need so, especially in case where floods and damaged roads were observed.
