Text message : radioactive cancerous rain to hit Philippines

I personally received this twice from someone I didn't know. The sms - text message saying that asian countries will be affected with the nuclear power plant that exploded from Fukushima, Japan.

As Philippines is located below Japan, the text message said that our country will reach the radioactive particles starting 4pm today. The sms message warned Filipinos to stay indoor for the first 24 hours starting 4pm, that all doors and windows must be tight close to avoid the radiation.

Also, the warning said that the rain is very dangerous to our body as it will be contaminated with radiation. Victims, according to the text message warning could burn skins and later will cause cancer.

But is this true or not?
This is, I guess, the best question that we must answer.

First, the distance of Japan to the Philippines is very unlikely that any nuclear radiation can hit the Philippines in a considerable amount, if there is.

Can anyone remember the bomb dropped by the USA at Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9, 1945? Though the radiation affected many Japanese on that time that causes cancerous deseases and birth defects, it doesn't reached Philippines. That two nuclear bombs have not harmed our country, and this one doesn't seems can either.

Second, for argument's sake that it can reach our country, it is very unlikely that it will arrive today at 4pm. Typhoons from Japan with great speed can take days to hit Philippine soil, much more for just an articifial explosion.

Conclusion: this is nothing but a hoax.

Here is the exact text message that I received on my cellphone today.

"PAALALA: 4:30 in the afternoon sumabog ung isang nuclear power plant sa Fukumi. Kapag umulan daw mamaya at bukas, wala daw lalabas. Kung nasa labas kayo, siguraduhin nyong nakakapote o nakapayong kayo dahil kapag naulanan kayo delikado daw, may tendency na masunog balat nyo, makalbo o magka cancer gawa ng radio active materials na humalo sa ulan."

"BBC News Flash Report: Japan government confirms radiation leak at Fukushima nuclear plants. Asian countries should take necessary precautions. Remain indoors first 24 hours. Close doors and windows. Swab neck skin with betadine where thyroid area is. Radiation hits thyroid first. It may hit Philippines starting at 4pm today. Let’s all pray protection against radiation."
