COMELEC's Money Ban For May 2013 Election - Philippines

Would you believe that aside from gun ban and liquor ban, Commission on Election (COMELEC) now imposes Money Ban - and the thing is, the implementation will start tomorrow, May 8, 2013.

What is money ban?

Money Ban had became official with the power of COMELEC Resolution Number 9688.

Money Ban aims to address the vote buying for the coming May 2013 election.

With this, resolution 9688 would prohibit withdrawals bigger than one hundred thousand (Php. 100,000) pesos per day. Only the cash withdrawals are grounded on the new rule, so Philippine commerce will not be affected by it.

Along with this, COMELEC also prohibit the trasport of Philippine peso in cash in amount of more than five hundred thousand pesos (Php. 500,000).

If you think that's all, the rule also prohibit anyone inside the Philippine territory to possess or carry cash money amounting to more than a half million pesos. If caught, violators will be charge of vote buying.

This is another precautions to have a credible and safer elections.

Money Ban will be implemented first time in the history of Philippine election and will be observe within five days starting May 8, 2013.
