SK Election To Be Postponed

The Sangguniang Kabataan - SK election will be postpone on October 2016 according to Caloocan City Representative Edgar Erice (second district).

On a DZMM interview, the congressman said that the rescheduling of the SK election has been agreed by the lower house, the ruling was said to have decided in light of the SK Reform Bill.

It can be recalled that the SK election was first halted on October 2013 after nationwide criticism grew amid the allegations that the SK election had becoming a training ground for corrupt officials.
"Kanina nagdesisyon na to pave way for the reforms ay kailangan talagang i-postpone 'yung SK elections." - the law maker said.

"So by Monday ia-adapt [ng Senado] 'yung House version of postponement. We will be coordinating with the Comelec (Commission on Elections) and the Office of the President para mafinalize itong mga bagay na ito." - the congressman added.

Supposedly, the SK election should be done on February 21 of this year after it was cancelled on the October 2013 election.

With the lower house's ruling, Commission on Elections Chairman Sixto Brillantes is then scheduled to appear on the senate committee on January 22, 2015 - Thursday, to appeal on the rescheduling of the said election.

The SK Reform Bill also known as the "Youth Development and Empowerment Act of 2014" had been submitted on the Senate August of last year, months after the controversy.

Some major changes on the new regulation are:
1.) Youth of ages 15-24 instead of 15-17 will now be a part of the SK election, but those 18 years old and above can only run on any position.
2.) Provision of anti-political dynasty
3.) To strengthen the training programs for the young leaders

Meanwhile, the COMELEC regional offices are still open for the registration.
