President Aquino Rejected Ferdinand Marcos State Burial

Philippine president Benigno Noynoy PNoy Aquino III had officially stated that he will not permit the lare Philippine president, Ferdinand Marcos, to be burried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. The statement was said during the forum hosted by the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP) yesterday, October 12, 2011 - Wednesday.

Philippine vice president Jejomar Binay earlier recommended the state burial for Marcos to the president. However, the president apologized to Binay for not approving his recommendation to give full military honors for Ferdinand Marcos.

“In all honesty...and I think I will have to communicate this to the Vice President, I apologize, he's been doing the study on my behalf. He had a recommendation and it was recently called to my attention again. We have so many victims of the Martial Law years who have not gotten even a recognition formally from this government, from our government and they were victims,” the Philippine President said.

President Noynoy stressed further that the victims of injustices during Marcos' regime weren't given compensation yet, and he sealed that Marcos will not be given any state burial while he's still the president.

“They have not been accorded an apology, the compensation bill is still pending, and it would be really I think the height of injustice to render any honors to the person who was the direct mastermind of all their suffering. So, I think I will not sanction a burial for the late President Marcos — not under my watch,” PNoy said.

Meanwhile, Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., son of the former president Marcos, is very disappointed by President Aquino III’s decision to reject his father's burial.

"Nakapag-decide na pala s’ya bago pa yung kampanya. Sinabi lang niya iyon para makakuha ng boto. Hindi s’ya tapat (He had already made his decision before the presidential campaign. He just said that back then so he could get votes. He’s not true to his word)," Bong-bong said on a media interview.

It can be recalled that the late President, Ferdinand Marcos, died on September 28, 1989 and the Marcos family had been seeking ways for him to have a full military honors and being burried at the libingan ng mga bayani. Five presidents had sat on the presidency and not one of them granted the family's wish.
